'Frankie On Zanzibar' sold to Interzone
Short story FRANKIE ON ZANZIBAR will be published in Interzone issue 207, November/December 2006. Story length 10,000 words.
This is a look into the maximum world. Giant corporations are turning themselves into sovereign entities. Billions of people are descending ever deeper into poverty and chaos. The planet has reached a teetering cusp as it waits for the Malthusian tipping point to arrive. For those few who can, the game is on to find ways of surviving the crunch when it comes.
Zanzibar is a corporate enclave, a privileged oasis in the midst of rolling disaster. But Zanzibar's days are numbered, too. The sea is rising. In a decade the companies and the money will have gone. For the moment it's a good place to live, but not for much longer. What do you do if your job is to bring up a clever little girl?
And what might the girl do?
