Transit owes a debt of gratitude to Dave Windett. He first suggested a story based on a place where the everyday inhabitants went about their lives despite the disturbances caused by superheroes. Those lives shouldn't be spectacular, just ordinary, and the story would be interested only in them. The superheroes would be a peripheral pain.

It was a superb idea. Dave suggested starting the story with a fresher arriving at the local university. The fresher could take Transit Studies, which would bring with it explanations of the place. There should be a lot of bots (Dave Windett is an excellent comics artist and especially adept at drawing bots). Maybe there was also room for a character who used gadgets instead of relying on superpowers – a character who now appears rarely and fleetingly in the guise of Flying Fox.

What has grown out of this is my own. I've stolen liberally – meaning, of course, that I've paid homage. Some things already present in Semester 1, and lots lined up for subsequent seasons, have arisen from conversations with friends and family. My debt to them is extensive and ongoing. The blame for it all, though, is entirely mine.

Finally, I must thank Paul Drummond. Without his extensive work in the background you wouldn't be able to read any of this.

David Mace.
